I think the only way is to check for FC-VI adapter. You may have sync mirror without metro cluster; and you may have metro cluster without sync mirror (yes, you should not do it, but technically it is possible). Second best is to check for normal disks on FC switches, but that leaves out stretch clusters and V-Series.

Oh, it simply suggests one possible method to configure NetBoot. As you already have two controllers running the same (I assume) version, you do not really need it.

This is the first time ever I hear about copying something. You need cluster license on both controllers; once license is installed, just issue "cf enable" and reboot.

If this is new install and there is no data, it is more simple to reinstall. It may be possible to avoid it by creating small aggregate, moving root volume to it, and then destroying existing one. It will take almost exactly the same time (you need to zero disks anyway) and some experience, although conceptually it is very simple.

Advantage - disks are shared between multiple workloads. Disadvantage - disks are shared between multiple workloads. Seriouosly, there is no black and white, espicially in IT. What is advantage to one, is disadvantage to other. Separate data aggregates are more flexible (you can move data to another filer) and reduce impact of workloads on each other. Multiple small aggregates waste space and reduce maximum performance for each workload. Pick your choice.

They are spares for root partitions on both controllers. It does not look like you have spares for data partitions. Do you use them at all? What aggregates do you have?

Yes, you can. With small number of disks that is the only practical configuration. Even C-Mode now allows it (indirectly via disk partitions, but it is still the same - disks are shared between root and user voumes).

Your network configuration is invalid. You have the same IP on both controllers. It is unpredictable which controller will be contacted. This could *not* work before except by sheer luck. You need to set two different addresses and add partner statements so addresses are available after takeover as well.

You show 7-Mode commands, but you tagged your question with cluster mode. So start with explaining what you actually have. We have no idea what is IP address you show and how it is related to your question. If this is filer address - tell so, which filer. Or may be it is SVM if you really has C-Mode.

8.2 7-Mode is still maintained in foreseeable future (I suspect your FAS will be EOL before it 🙂 ). Do you need any specific 8.3 features?

Then you need cluster license. All other licenses are the same in 7-Mode and C-Mode, but you will need to re-enter them, so make sure to have license code(s) available. You will need to contact your NetApp representative how to obtain cluster license; it makes sense to also ask him about procedure to convert from 7-Mode. No backup is needed, 7-Mode configuration is not compatible with C-Mode anyway. You will need to completely configure new system from the very beginning.

If you are using VSM, it is possible as long as fas1 and new fas2 have at least one common snapShot - just do resync from fas1 to new fas2.

In Linux you need to mount filesystem with "discard" option. Not every filesystem supports it and it must be supported by storage stack as well.

Snap drive should actually transparently fall back to lun clone if flexclone license is not present; so it should also work. It automates all steps needed to create and aces snapshots, so it makes sense to use it if you can.
