The "to" is filtered intentionally to not send "spam" AutoSupports like these and can be configured as needed. That's not what the documentation says. From System Administration Guide 8.1RC3: Daily and Weekly are sent to "Addresses specified in autosupport.to and autosupport.partner.to". But when looking with "autosupport trigger show", weekly trigger is not sent to "to" address by default and there is no trigger that bears any resemblance to "daily". All of this is rather confusing ... is it possible to configure "daily" trigger similar to "weekly"?

Data will never be sent over interconnect. There are two possibilities 1. Use NDMP three way backup. Data will be sent from controller B via LAN to controller A which writes them on tape. 2. Use drive sharing. In this case tape drive will be visible to both controllers and backup manager will "grant" permissions to use to to one or other. It may require extra licensing depending on backup application. It is in principle possible to send NDMP stream from host to emulate 3-way backup. I knew some backup products that supported it. Whether BE can do it, is probably better asked on BE forums.

Each head is completely independent server which means it must have at least root volume (and hence aggregate and disks where this root volume is located) as well as own IP address(es). Active/passive is meaningless when applied to a head; both heads are up and running and serve data if you have configured them to do it. Each resource (share, LUN) is indeed active/passive - it is served by one head at a time only. If one head fails, another one takes over all resource and continues to serve partner data (if properly configured )

Thanks for any idea or hint. I am not sure I understand what exactly is wrong. Do you ask, how to return back to weekly ASUPs? Or how to turn off ASUP completely?

make sure the autosupport.performance_data.enable is off This is extremely bad advice. If you do not want to receive ASUP, do not put yourself in recipient list of ASUP. That's that simple.

Well … suppoted way is to perform “software install” first. That is why I said that currently there does not seem to exist any way to install diags separately – it is always part of BIOS+diags package and both get installed when you run “software install”.

Diagnostic is installed on boot media when you run “download” or “download -d”. There is no need to “flash” it. I do not think it is possible to install diagnostic separately today; it is single package with firmware and diags.

Regarding drive C: - I believe SnapProtect supports OSSV that may cover non-NetApp storage. Also for pure virtual shop you have all your data on NetApp already. I guess you need to compare with SnapManager family, not with generic backup software. Then it is definitely step forward.

I don't want to put my e0M port on different subnet. Why do you need to configure e0M if it is in the same subnet? e0M makes sense only if you have dedicated subnet for administration and do not want to waste 1GbE port for it. keeping in e0M in same subnet is an issue ??? Yes.

what alternatives do I have to offload backups off the LAN if possible BUT still allowing for granular restores? In case of iSCSI "LAN free" is a bit ambiguous. What SnapProtect can, is create snapshot and mount it on another server (called proxy) which will then backup on directly attached tape library. While truly LAN free in case of FCP, you still need to mount LUN over LAN in case of iSCSI. SnapProtect does not support backing up LUN directly to tape, attached to filer. Benefits of SnapProtect are true tape integration and single pane of glass for all copies (snapshots, replicas, tape backups, ...) and ability to restore from any available copy.

Ausotusupport is enabled by default, but you have to configure how it is delivered (HTTPS or SMTP). By default it is set to HTTPS and it is very unlikely that your appliance has direct connection to Internet. So you need to either set up proxy connection, or change to SMTP and define mail server, return address etc.

I am not aware of any difference between standard configuration and MetroCluster. If you use FMC, additional consideration is Brocade switches, but here you follow standard practice of upgrading one fabric at a time and waiting until everything is stabilized before upgrading second one. Upgrade and Revert Guide is part of standard Data ONTAP documentation pack, available from support (formerly NOW) site. It is also recommended to run Upgrade Advisor which is available on My Autosupport pages.

It helps to read documentation before doing such major task. Upgrade and Revert Guide explains how to perform major version upgrades. In this case you need to do "cf takeover -n" and manually halt another filer.

This normally happens when filer cannot find its root volume. If you post full log from turning power on until this menu appears, someone may be able to tell what happens.

As long as major version does not change, it is OK. Major version is second digit, so both are 7.3 and compatible. But it makes sense to update destination first anyway.

It ensures that any change in configuration is always applied to the whole cluster. When you add LUN, it is ensured that all nodes see it. When you a node, it is ensured it sees all LUNs. Whether this is beneficial or not, it is up to you after all ...
