This didn't help me with getting VSC to communicate with the filers over TLS per the vulnerabilities listed in https://kb.netapp.com/support/index?page=content&id=9010008 and sslv3 being disabled on them. I wonder if there is some other way to get that to work.

I'm getting the same error, but when trying to scan/modify/update storage systems in VSC 5.0 from the web client. How did you fix it? -Ed

I installed it on 2012 R2 datacenter, and apart from the annoying bug where you have to run vsc ssl setup manually, it appears to be working correctly.

VSC still needs to be installed on a windows server for it to register to the vCenter Appliance. My recommendation is to install it on the same server VUM is running (since VUM requires windows anyways). Ofcourse VSC 4.2.1 isn't supported on Server 2012, so if you want to install VUM 5.5 U1 on windows 2012 r2, you're going to need to install VSC 5.0x6, but then you get web-client VSC functionality.

Open an administrator command prompt. Change directory to VSC\bin directory Run vsc ssl setup Enter a keystore password and press Enter. Enter a key password and press Enter. Problem should be fixed now.

I've installed VSC 5.0x6 on a Windows 2012 server, but am having strange errors trying to start the service. ID 7024 Incorrect Function. Unable to open up the Plugin registration webpage either. Does VSC 5.0 work on 2012 R2? Or is my issue related to something else?

Quoting from the release notes: --- Specific versions of graphical management interfaces are compatible with certain versions of Data ONTAP. For example, if you want to use OnCommand System Manager with Data ONTAP 8.2, you need to install OnCommand System Manager version 2.2. Earlier versions of OnCommand System Manager and other graphical management interfaces will not work with Data ONTAP 8.2. Visit the Software Download page to learn more about the supported versions and availability of graphical management tools, such as OnCommand System Manager, SnapDrive and SnapManager products, Virtual Storage Console, and more. --- When Snapdrive 6.5 or older tries to talk to the controller to determine license status, the communication fails because the license API doesn't support 8.2. For this reason Snap Manager products will NOT work. Wait until a newer version of Snapdrive is released that supports 8.2 to test 8.2 Also, OnCommand Core, VSC, Snapdrive, System Manager, and SnapManager must all be upgraded to versions that support 8.2 BEFORE attempting to upgrade to 8.2. Otherwise, you will have to do a downgrade (revert_to) of ONTAP which is disruptive. FYI, SnapDrive 6.5 fully supports server 2012, together with iSCSI host utilities 6.0.2 for Windows. Make sure you're using that version. I dont think the ONTAP version cares what guest OS version you are using provided the tools (such as SnapDrive) support it. -Ed

Snapdrive 6.x is not supported and will NOT work with Data ONTAP 8.2.x. We will have to wait for the next version to be released (possibly later in the summer). I.E. Don't upgrade to 8.2 until then. It will break all SnapManager products.

I was given a tentative answer from NetApp Technical Support that the release schedule for Snapdrive doesn't match up with DataONTAP and that snapdrive won't work until the new releases come out. I am also seeing other issues related to erronous "NFS not licensed, X not exported" which sound very bad (but then the export is still available). I'm having an issue where I upgraded a test system to 8.2RC1, and now SMSQL is reporting the following error when attempting to view snapshot copies "Error: Failed to get the list of licenses on the storage system 'x'. Error code: 13007. Error description: This API is no longer supported. USe license-v2-list-info instead."

That doesn't answer my question. I want to know what the granular permissions in the Exchange 2010 organization that the SME service account (on the domain) needs to perform its tasks on Exchange 2010. This is seperate from local admin permissions, or log on as a service, etc...

Can anyone tell me what the exact permissions requirements for the SME service identity account in Exchange 2010? The admin.pdf document doesn't even attempt to answer this in terms applicable to Exchange 2010. -Ed

I'm setting up communications between OnCommand Core 5.01 and NetApp filers running Data ONTAP 7.3.6 and 8.1. After following the steps listed in https://communities.netapp.com/docs/DOC-9314, I tried to configure a domain account instead of a local account (useradmin domainuser vice useradmin user). Now I'm getting en error "Permission denied for SNMPv3 requests from XXX\XXXXX. Reason: user does not exist." I dont get this error if i substitute a local account instead. My question is, is a domain account supported for snmpv3 communication between filers and dfm? -Ed

When attempting to upgrade Snapdrive for Windows on two IBM HS21 blades running Windows 2008 R2 SP1 (SQL cluster nodes running SDW 6.3.1R1 and SMSQL 5.1), I'm getting an error that prevents the upgrade from proceeding. Once the install is at the "Snapdrive Web Service Configuration Page," I accept the default port assignments and click Next. The following error pops up: "Not recommend to use Port 4094 with SnapDrive WebService, Error 10013." Clicking ok on that error leads to "Port 4094 in use by another application." A workaround was uninstalling SDW and clean installing SDW. I understand this is a FCS Release, but just wanted to put this out there anyways, considering the fiasco that was the initial SDW 6.3 release.

If you read the Release Notes on Data ONTAP 8.1 RC here it clearly states Filerview is no longer available. I have deployed 8.1RC2 to several FAS3170s and can verify that filerview is gone. https://now.netapp.com/NOW/knowledge/docs/ontap/rel81rc2/html/ontap/rnote/GUID-8162DC06-C922-4D03-A8F7-0BA76F6939CB.html

How did you do the install? Did you isntall the Host package first? or VSC 2.1.1? I'm trying to deploy them both, but the Host package reports errors if it sees Backup and Recovery or Provisioning and Cloning (from VSC 2.1.1) already installed. I'm assuming you deployed VSC without the addons, and then Host Package 1.1?

I read somewhere that you might be able to install VSC 2.1.1 and OnCommand Host 1.1 and have them coexist. Can anyone confirm this? I have vCenter 5.0 with OnCommand Host 1.1 installed. Do I need to install VSC 2.1.1 to get the VMware plugin functionality working in vCenter (set Host options, RCU, SMVI)? or ?

When I rapid clone from template, RCU places all vmdk's in a single location. for example: template is setup as follows (for smvi) vm config files: LUN: "datastore1" vm vmdk1 file: LUN: "datastore1" vm vmdk2 file: LUN: "datastore1swap" (independent persistent) During cloning, I select advanced and ensure all files are kept on the same datastores listed above. final result: vm config files: LUN: "datastore1" vm vmdk1 file: LUN: "datastore1swap" vm vmdk2 file: LUN: "datastore1swap" If I do a regular deploy from template, the target clone is configured correctly (vmdks in the right location. Now I have to figure out a way to move vmdk1 back to datastore1, which renders the whole rapid cloning useless. I guess one solution would be to remove the vmdk2 file from the original template, re-rapid-clone the template, and then individually add 5/10g independent vmdks to each vm for guest swap. Anyone know why RCU works this way? is this intended? -Ed

Can you reconfigure the switches to merge the iscsi/nfs/snapmirror_and_nfs vlans just for the moment? To see if that fixes the connectivity issue? Next I'd probably open a ticket with Juniper (or complain to your Juniper sales engineer) that Juniper equipment can't do something Cisco can. My only remaining concern is how are you setting which alias IP goes to which vlan? Might want to get into the weeds with NetApp regarding how vif's handle vlan trunking. Maybe their method isn't compatible with Junipers? Wish I could be of more help. -Ed

Ross, if you want to export a qtree, instead of the volume, do you need to change the default export? Or just lock it down? ie create qtree called /vol/volume1/volume1 and then reference /vol/volume1/volume1 instead of /vol/volume1 when accessing the export from hosts.

Whats the right way to setup NFS exports on qtrees? 1. Create volume vol1. 2. Create unix qtree called vol1 under vol1. 3. Do I delete the existing default export /vol/vol1 and recreate it, or just leave it be? Because I can't select a qtree as the folder to export (/vol/vol1/vol1), nor can I create a folder, under the qtree, to export. 4. Set rw/root access, unix security permissions on the export. 5. Then when I add it to ESX, i point it to /vol/vol1/vol1, and that appears to work. I just dont know if thats the correct way of setting it up. -Ed

change your VIF configuration to lacp (vice multimode). i think the juniper part is setup right. I have a similar configuration that works, except its dual 10G in an LACP vif. But I'm not vlan trunking. How do you configure the vif side to recognize the vlans? do you just use alias IPs on the appropriate networks?
