Data Ontap 8.1.2 I know when setting up the Filer you run the CIFS setup. However within a vfiler I am not sure if I need to run setup again or restart cifs. Here is what I get. I have setup a volume/qtree under a vfiler. Using CLI, I open the vfiler context testvfiler >cifs shares cifs not running restart set preferred dc test dc setup cifs I do have cifs running on, I want to verify which command I should run to enable cifs and share out my qtrees. I want to verify it will not affect my other filers or vfilers. thanks,

I had to resize a volume that was snapmirrored. On the source filer-a, I resized the volume. On the destination file-c - I broke the mirror, turned off fs_size, resized the volume to match filer-a volumes. then tried snapmirror resync filer-c:volume. It asked to confirm resync which I do. then errors with. The following prevents remount of volume Shares zapi snapshot list zapi snapshot list zapi snapshot list zapi delta zapi snapshot list zapi snapshot list volume is in use by other operations. (Shares) resync failed. This is a critical volume that host all our data shares for users. Not sure what to do.

I want to double check what is the best practice for security style's. I have a number of Qtree's with LUNS that are mapped via SnapDrive on our Mail server using Exchange 2007. Should I be using Unix or NTFS security style? they are currently set to Unix and working fine. However I want to double check they are set correctly and if not, can they be changed to NTFS? Creating new Qtree's and LUNS for Exchange and SQL SnapManager, should I use Unix or NTFS. Thanks

Thanks Martin, The person used a unique asset tag number on each drive. Now they want to verify it. I was not around when the filer and shelf were installed. what would be the correct steps on shutting down the whole filer? I am thinking that is probably the best option as failing each disk does not sound like a good thing to do.

Before the shelf was mounted and hooked up, the hard drives were tagged with number. I need to pull the drives to see the number on them. The last person did not do a very good job of inventory, hence I have to go and verify everything including each drive and that it matches up to inventory control has. I was trying to figure out an easy way to do it. I know the drives are hot swap but my understanding is that if I pull one out, thats working fine and put in back in it will have to index and redo the array?

We have 2 controllers and 4 shelf's, 2 shelf's per controller. Is is possible to just shutdown one shelf at time without causing any issues? this is a our backup unit which is doing snap mirroring only. If so, what is the proper way to shutdown a shelf? thanks

Hello, I am using system manager 2.1. I know how to create a volume and export it. However I want to this inside one of our vfilers. I created the volume. I moved it into the vfiler, I can see the exports with exportfs, the new volume is not exported yet. How do I export the new volume in the vfiler? do I need to export it before putting it in the vfiler? basic setup. vFilerB - currently has 3 volumes New volume - testvolume
