Performance Advisor deep dive

Hello

I am trying to understand how far I may go with Performance Advisor to monitor a customer activity and diagnose
it when a proble occurs.

Let's assume I use Perf. Adv 4.0

I am collecting NFS performances, and I noticed a latency issue.

I know I have now event correlation to help me see whether or not an event has occur.

Assuming I see nothing, how fare can I deep dive to ?

- may I see domain usage ?

- may I see fragmentation (RAID stats) ? etc.

- may I export my collected data to perfviewer or equivalent internal tool ?

- If so, can I just extract a desired limited period of time ?

Thanks for help

- may I see domain usage ?

Yes. Using processor summary view, you can see the domain usage.

- may I see fragmentation (RAID stats) ? etc.

No. PA does not report counters for RAID groups and plexes.

- may I export my collected data to perfviewer or equivalent internal tool ?

Yes. You can export data from PA and load it into CMPG. Latx is not yet

supported.

- If so, can I just extract a desired limited period of time ?

Yes. you can specify the time period during extraction.

In addition, you can also try diagnosing the filer from PA (added in DFM

4.0).

Let me know if you need more information.

Hi Marie,

Some of my recommendations are:

- Run 'Event Correlation' to get the list of performance related events that could have caused the current performance behavior.

- Run 'Diagnosis' from the 'View Actions' drop down. This will verify basic performance related health checks for the storage system and present recommendations to resolve any violations.

- Use 'Client Statistics' to determine rogue clients for the storage system. Current this feature is supported for NAS (NFS, CIFS) clients only.

I think I'm missing something obvious here but where specifically is the "Diagnosis" tool you mentioned? (very interested in this) For that matter I can't find "Event Correlation" either actually.

He....so I found out just as soon as I posted -- choose a filer in and then the "View Action" menu is on the middle upper part of the screen above the graphs (just for anyone else who has trobule finding it).
