Hardware: FAS2050 - Dual controllers
ONTAP: 7.3.3
System has working QLE2462 (2-port) FC card in expansion PCI-E slot. No issues. Tried upgrading the card to the QLE2464 (4-port) system does not recognize it. Card lights up, that's about it.

Pulled iadfas01 controller. Installed new 4 port card. Reinstalled controller.
Iadfas02: cf giveback
At this point the system did not recognize the new card. Decided to investigate further and roll back to the original configuration for the time being.

What is the NetApp part number? For the 2050, the X2054A-R6 (Qlogic 2432) is the supported quad card initiator. The quad port target HBA is X1130A-R6... but looks like an initiator and the 2054a is the 2432 not 2464 on parts finder.
Please show “sysconfig -ca” output on this system.

-ca is a very useful command. It parses /etc/sysconfigtab to get a part number from the card description string. And also if unsupported or not for the platform. It likely would say unsupported card if you still had it installed. The QLogic part number is different on the netapp 2054a which isn't what you had
according to the Netapp hardware universe, the mentioned quad port card doesn't support on this filer. Please check with "https://hwu.netapp.com/Adapter/Index"

The following supported adapters listed appear* to be the same card i'm working with. Is this just a matter of the configuration of the card that makes it a target or initiator?

Is this the same card that NetApp has re-branded or do I have a different HBA that will not work?

The NetApp supplied card is x2054a is initiator mode only... not sure if a jumper on the card or an ONTAP driver forcing it but doesn't support target connections. The new 8GB FC cards support either target or initiator like the onboard ports using fcadmin config...but these adapters are initiator only. If you are not using the NetApp supplied card then not sure how to tell but you might be able to find a netapp card and compare everything is exact...just unsupported probably if not netapp supplied.
