Active IQ now provides redesigned workload tagging UI and workload level capacity and efficiency. You can tag volumes with the Workload, Application, Protocol and Container. Workload is an enterprise workload and Application is defined as an User Application/Products.
There are there different type of workload tags - ONTAP Tag, Auto Generated Tag and User Tag. ONTAP tag is the tag obtained from ONTAP AutoSupport when workload template in System Manager is used to provision. Using Auto detection mechanisms, Active IQ can intelligently identify the type of workload running on the volume and these are termed as Auto Generated Tag. Most volumes are identified based on predefined knowledge. Unidentified volumes are tagged as 'Other'.
UI is built with rich features including advanced filters for filtering SVMs, Volumes, Workloads and others so you can choose multiple volumes with custom names can be tagged and viewed. You can also download the entire list.
Once the volumes are tagged, Active IQ provides total Capacity and Efficiency for each workload and application. It also provides volume level efficiency and capacity here. All the efficiency ratios provided are excluding Snapshots and clones.
It provides the list of best practices for the tagged workload to achieve best performance and efficiency for workload with NetApp Storage.
Active IQ provides peer ratio for each type of workload which can be compared against so Customer can contact NetApp to improve the efficiency if workload efficiency is lower and can also share success story if the efficiency is higher than peer ratio. Peer ratio is defined based on ONTAP version and are calculated based on workloads identified across install base using NetApp Community Wisdom.
Workload tagging is supported from ONTAP 8.3.1 and above.
