Network and Storage Protocols

Is it possible to move a file (vmdk) from iSCSI to NFS at a later date?

Hi all,

I'm new when it comes to iSCSI vs NFS, but I'm hearing a lot of pro-NFS talk.  If once my Netapp is implemented I just wanted to get a virtual machine on there ASAP and it had to go on an iSCSI section of the SAN, could it be easily moved to an NFS section easily at a later date?

Many thanks in advance.

VMDK is just a file. You can move it to an NFS volume whenever you want to.

Yes, you can do that.

The most hassle-free method would be to do this via vCenter - either on-line, using Storage vMotion, or doing offline migration.

Regards,

Radek
