There is no XP/Vista/7 support for OSSV....only 2000, 2003, 2008 support.  However, Syncsort OSSV can work with these clients but those agents are not free (OSSV agents are no charge when you purchase SnapVault Secondary).  The latest NetApp OSSV does support MSSQL though which is nice.

Definitely not supported. Even if you try to install the Win2K8 version on Windows 7, it doesn't work. It will install, but the configuration tabs don't show up and the agent doesn't behave properly.

Hi

I have installed the OSSV "ossv_windows2k8_v3.0.1_32bit" on Windows 7 and it works. No problemo 🙂

Cheers,

Just to add, the reason for lack of support is because OSSV uses a pull mechanism.  So the backup will start (and most likely fail) even if the client isn't online and on the network.

For desktop backup, you really want a solution that pushes the data when the client is on the network.

SnapCreator apparently is capable of initiating OSSV update from client (although documentation for OSSV mode is rather terse). So looks like push mode is possible?
