Upgrading from Data ONTAP 7.3.x releases to Data ONTAP 8.0.x 7-Mode is a standard major release upgrade and one that can be done non-disruptively.  In a sense, you can think of Data ONTAP 8.0.x 7-Mode as if it is a pseudo Data ONTAP 7.4 (which will never exist), at least from an upgrade and management tools standpoint.

As of a week or so ago, Upgrade Advisor did not yet support upgrade to Data ONTAP 8.0.1, but I believe it will be supported soon.
