Hi everybody,
I have to develop an application where I have to audit for change in permission of file/folder. I have downloaded the Simulator from NetApp website. I am changing the permissions from Windows. Is there a way to audit the change in permission? I have tried this for about two weeks.
Thanks & regards,
Talib Hussain

Depends on the protocol...for CIFS you can use "options cifs.audit" and enable cifs auditing and set thresholds by size and/or time and write to event log evt files. You also need to go into the folder properties to click what to audit. There is software already that does this as well, for example some of our customers use Varonis software on a separate server that uses fpolicy for NetApp auditing...

Hi Scott,
The result of "options cifs.audit" is shown in 1.png.
The result of the folder properties what ot audit is shown in 2.png.
Can you tell me about the protocol you are asking for.
Is there some more information other than this that you want to tell or ask?
Thanks & regards,
Talib Hussain

Are there any software tools known that would be best to use to track and report on CIFS share permission changes?
Thanks
