Hi guys,
My question is around the space in an aggregate. Consider the following over simplified example:
- A single 100 Gb volume in a 200 GB aggregate
- A single LUN of 50 Gb in that volume, thick provisioned
So:
- Volume has 50 GB Free
- Aggregate has 100 GBFree
Now, I create a flex-clone of the volume and write 50 Gb into it. So:
- Volume has 50 GB Free and a snapshot (assuming now rites to original LUN)
- Aggregate has 50GB Free
Now, when I delete the flex-clone, should i see that 50GB immediately returned to the Aggregate?

HI, thanks for the reply. My question though is will I see the space returned to the aggregate immediately i.e. are the blocks returned to the aggregate free space immediately or on a schedule?

Hi darraghos,
Unfortunately, it may not be returned immediately as it depends on several factors like load, amount of space.
Regards,
Hari.

Thanks Hari, I think the load on the CPU might be my problem. CPU generally at 80% on a 2 CPU filer. Is there a way top monitor the give back?
