How to export license files?

We bought a used FAS2040 and would like to backup the license keys before reconfiguring.  I know that Netapps have FTP functionality, but I have no idea how to export these files.

Is there a way to do that?

hello, they need a NetApp Support access and serial number, you can obtain the licenses of NetApp support. Alternatively, you can read the licenses of the autosupport. mail (c & p).

So there's no way to actually copy them off of the filer through FTP?  I don't have a support contract and want to make a backup of them.

use a putty session, then call the command to license, then copy and paste and ready is the backup. with license add after a reinstallation again -> recovery license

The license command shows the following:

Is there another command that actually shows the keys?

Use "license" command to list installed license keys.

Right, but that doesn't back up the key anywhere.  I want to back up the keys to an external drive, in case I ever need to reinstall them.

What is your Data ONTAP version?

Everything marked as EBABLED does not require license key. See https://kb.netapp.com/support/index?page=content&id=3013159 for details.

Got it, thanks.

One question; does wiping the disks (option 4 in boot menu) erase license keys?

Is there anything I should be wary of that would erase license keys?

Thanks

Yes, option 4 will remove license keys. I am not aware of any other situation when Data ONTAP would do it by itself.

Then how would I back up the license keys before running option 4?

Also, does it delete all licenses or does it leave the ones that are marked as ENABLED?

You cannot see the keys again once you have added the license. It will just take the key and show as enabled (if valid). If you want to note down the keys, you must get access to the filer using netapp support site. Then you can view all your license keys. If your license is still valid, NetApp SAM can pull the keys and send via email also.

You cannot see the keys again once you have added the license.

Of course you can. You clearly see them just couple of posts before.

Aren't they asking about the visibility of 28 character license key from filer end? Is it visible to uset without intervention of NetApp?

28 character license

There was life before Data ONTAP 8.2 as well 🙂
