Hi guys.
I have some few question about upgrading ONTAP Firmware on FAS8040 platform. (now using Clusted ONTAP 8.3.2)
when i selecting the FAS8040 on the NetApp Support System Firmware & Diagnostics Download page i can see BIOS FW 9.6. is this ONTAP 9.6?
And can i upgrade one way to ONTAP 8.3.2 to ONTAP 9.6?
ONTAP 8.3.2 -> ONTAP 9.1 -> ONTAP 9.6 = correct ?
ONTAP 8.3.2 -> ONTAP 9.6 = corecct ?
give me something best practice guide book please thx.
regards.
Hi,
No. It has nothing to do with Ontap Operating system version.
Your Ontap could be on 8.3 OS or for that sake 9.1, and your BIOS could show 9.5.
For exampl: I have Ontap 9.1
But, if I do this:
::>node run -node node-01
node-01>sysconfig -a
BIOS version : 9.5
Hence, this not the same.
For Ontap upgrade chart:
https://library.netapp.com/ecm/ecm_get_file/ECMLP2507747
Direct upgrade possibility:
From 8.3.x -- Ontap 9.1
9.1 -- 9.2/9.3
9.3 -- 9.4/9.5
9.5 -- 9.6
Hence, to go to 9.6, you will be required to go via step-upgrades.
thanks. have a nice day!
You're welcome. You too have a nice day!
We're in the process of moving from 8.3.2P5 to 9.6.
We've been told that the steps are: 8.3.2P5 -> 9.1P19 ->9.3.P15 -> 9.6P2
Hope this helps.
Hi,
May I know who has advised this process ?
@MKELLYSCSC: We've been told that the steps are: 8.3.2P5 -> 9.1P19 ->9.3.P15 -> 9.6P2
Up till 9.3P15, it's fine. But, you cannot go directly to 9.6.
There is an intermediate upgrade to 9.5.
The BIOS version is not ontap. You can run the run-node A700-01 -command sysconfig -a command to check the version of your BIOS version. If you need to upgrade your ontap version, You can perform the upgrade as follows: 8.3>9.1>9.3>9.5>9.6
