Ontap 8.3.2RC2 and AFF8080 - Vols created by default with 'space-guarantee=none'

Hi all,

I'm still pretty new to Cluster Data Ontap and have the following doubt:

We have a cluster containing AFF8080 and FAS8040 nodes, and noticed by default the volumes created on its aggregates aren't using the same space-guarantee.

On SSD-based aggregates the volumes created are set as "none". While for SAS-based it is set as "volume"

Would be possible to set by default "space-guarantee=volume" also for SSD-based aggregates?
Or has it anything to do with the storage efficiency policies running by default on AFF systems?

I know the benefits about thin provisioning but we'd like to preallocate space in advance

Thanks in advance for your help

Best regards,

Daniel

In order to get the best bang for the buck, hence inline compression, inline dedupe, and the new compaction in 9.0, all vols need to be thin provisioned on AFF.  That's the requirement.

With Netapps new 4:1 guarantee, that is the requirement.

I would not mess with any of the AFF settings

One more thing, you need to get off of RC code, and go to GA code.
