SnapMirror baseline transfer using tape drive

Hello everybody,

I know it is possible to do a SnapMirror baseline to a tape drive, but how do you do it?, using a single dump, smtape or ndmpcopy? What happens if the data in the source filer changes before you can copy the data from the tape to the destination filer?

Cheers.

Ricardo.

You need a single tape drive (it doesn't span tapes) and either change tapes manually or a stacker to change if more than one tape.  On the source you smtape backup then on the destination restrict the volume and smtape restore.  Then you can update the mirror after restore since the common base snapshot is the same on source and target.  Read the onlinebk.pdf document in the ONTAP documentation for a detailed description and command syntax.  You will want to do a snapmirror release on the target to remove the source to tape snapshot or delete that snap manually.
