Upgrade considerations for cDOT 8.3 with deduplication and compression

There is a caution in the cDOT 8.3 release notes about a possible temporary loss of deduplication savings on compressed volumes after upgrade. Does anyone have any details or insights on this? Or can someone better explain what happens here and why?
