Using UPN (userPrincipalName) for CIFS authentication

Hello,

Our customer is currently using CIFS from Ontap 9.5 and  8.2.4 (7-mode) and he is going to change some user's UPN attributes (userPrincipalName ) on his Microsoft Active DirectoryHe asked me if there is any point of care in doing so.

I'm trying to find any related information on NetApp's KB and didn't find anything related to this matter.

Would you guys have any document or comments about using this AD Attribute to access shares from NetApp  and possible issues that may arise on changing it on AD side?

Thanks!

Hi.

Shouldn't have an impact on access.

Access is evaluated on the base of SID's only.

The two things it might impact if set is user mapping (for windows-linux if set by name)

And on Home folders if it's set using the NetApp home-folder feature available in 7mode and cdot.
