What could possibly happen if I lost /etc/resolve.conf file from the system in 7mode ?

And what if I disable DNS on cDOT cluster ?

Am using NIS and all the external servers; for example NTP are configured with their IPs (not by hostname).

Regards,

Nothing, you just cant resolve hostnames.

Have plenty of 7 & cDOT machines without dns, works fine.

If you want to setup cifs, then you need to configure /etc/resolve.conf file.
