migrating data from old to new cluster

Hi,

How to retrieve the data when nodes are migrated to new cluster?? Is it possible or we have to start from scratch when nodes are added to new cluster right from aggregate creation . Currently we are planing to migrate Storage  from One DC to other as there is DC migration. We are having 8 node cluster. Can anyone help me how to migrate and retrieve the old data once nodes are configured in new cluster??

How do you mean?  it Sounds like you are  are you planning to break apart the 8 node cluster apart and move an HA pair to site 2?

Unlike the older 7-mode, you cannot take nodes with data, remove them from one cluster and then join them to another cluster.

A node must have no data (the process calls for wiping the data beforehand) to be joined to a cluster.

If you are standing up a new cluster and wish to migrate data, you may want to look at SVM-DR, a mirroring technology from NetApp that allows you to replicate an entire SVM to antoher location. You may need to confgiure a new networking infrastructure, but it works.

Hi.

See here for the reasons why it's still not possible. The only progress they made in recent years on that aspect was ARL (which can only happen within a cluster. )

Hi GidonMarcus,

So you mean to say that it is not possible and all we can do it either SVM-DR or simple snapmirror to retrieve the old data from old cluster to new one and create new aggregate. In all we have to start from scratch for the new cluster. So isn't this cumbersome job??

@SANTEAM you got that right.

One thing to add, is that if you don't have the capacity for the mirroring before the move, try negotiating with NetApp or the partner to borrow a swing-kit.  they used to give them out easily for similar technical challenges.
