upgrade 32->64 bit aggr/vols non-disruptively, without adding disk

Again in the position where my source aggregate is 32 bit and destination is 64 bit and this prevents vfiler online migration.

Last year this was a priv set diag command

aggr 64bit-upgrade start aggr1 -mode grow-all

http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/netapp/toasters/11820

In test mode, this completed the 64 bit upgrade quickly and without error.

Anyone done this in production? (Ontap 8.1)

this will hopefully make our vfiler migrations pass the pre-flight checks.

thanks

Hi Fletch,

DataMotion does not support mixed block type aggr. Also the question you posted here is more appropriate in the ONTAP forum than OnCommand.

As you may get more response there than here.

According to the release notes for Data ONTAP 8.2.1 RC1 (7-mode), you can convert an aggregate to the 64-bit format without adding storage. Below is the excerpt from the release notes that answers your question:

"Aggregates can be expanded to 64-bit format without adding storage

Starting with Data ONTAP 8.2.1, you can expand a 32-bit aggregate to the 64-bit format without adding storage to the aggregate. Converting to the 64-bit format enables you to use Data ONTAP features that require 64-bit aggregates, such as compression and Flash Pool aggregates."

Yes fletch2007,

i'd done that on all my production filer babies without adding disk.

The DOT version is 8.1.2P4 & 8.1.3P2.

Cheers + Happy year of the Horse
