vscan Scanners

Hello,

Does anybody knows if we can install vscan scanners on  Vmware Virtual Machine or is it required to have dedicated physical windows servers.

Then how to monitor the Netapp  file activity to define the correct number of vscan Scanners ?

Thanks

Yes, you can install vscan scanners on  Vmware Virtual Machine.

Defining the correct number of vscan Scanners will depend on more than one aspect like Vscan provider, server resources, filer, and user access.

Outside sizing tools, running "vserver cifs session show" will be a quick way to check for file use.

You can start with a primary and a secondary. New VMs can be deployed and added to the scanner pool if needed.

Thank you Mjizzini,

Currently we have more than 30k open CIFS files and about 4k users using 5 SVMs. With this first evaluation Could it be possible  to estimate a number of Vscanner or do we need to go dipper in the analyse.

Then what  metrics do we need to monitor ?

And do you know what is the maximum eligible "vscan latency" (in sec. or milisec.)  without performance decrease for the file client access.
