Create Aggregate with 23 disks and one hot spare?

Hi,

I added two new, 24 disk shelves, to my 6220.

I plan to add 1 shelf to each controller.

I think I will create a 23 disk aggregate -- (21+2) and one hot spare.  I will have one raid group size 11 and one size 10.

Does this seem like a reasonable implementation or is there a better one?

Thanks,

What type of disks will they be? SAS / SATA, etc.

If you have two raid gropus, there will be four parity disks. If you want a true 21 + 2, then you should set the raid group size to be 23 disks total, and have one raid group. But that would be a large raid group for large sized disks - since the rebuild time will be so long.

Max SATA raid group size is 20 disks, so 23 may not be possible.

True.

Just FYI;

I assume he said SAS, b/c he was saying 23..

If we are talking SAS, I would do RG 22  WHy would you do rg11 and 10. that makes no sense..
