Does rebooting the BMC reboot the whole filer?

Hi,

One of the two BMCs on my FAS2020 is set to DHCP and I would like to change it to a static IP instead. I gather to do this I need to run bmc setup from an ordinary SSH session to the filer, but from what I've read it will then ask if I want to reboot afterwards. Can someone tell me if that reboot means that the whole filer will restart, or just the BMC part of it (and if it is just the BMC restarting, will that have any effect on normal operations)?

Thanks.

In fact, in the end it just changed the address without requiring a reboot of anything at all.

Rebooting the BMC has no impact on the operation of the filer itself.  Of course, the management and hw monitoring functions of the BMC aren't available while it reboots, but it only takes a minute or so.

That's great - thanks for confirming.
