I have 28 disk in DS14 shelves, which I need to migrate to DS14MK2...

Here is the list of disks, some do fit the MK2 and some do not, but I can't fins ANY ifnormation on how to tell if tehy fit without physicall removing them and check if the carrier has the "wide" slot or not. But I need to be able to find out without removing them!

Thanks for your ideas,

Peter

The X274 and the X278 look good for the mk2... However, the 7 X236 drives are not for the mk2 and the carrier won't work since they are 1GB drives.

Use parts finder and search the part #... the SP part numbers are the same as the X part but used for RMA.

As I just answered on support forums ☺ X274 came in two variants; both are OK for mk2, but X274A is 1Gb/s only. Need to check basing on model number.

274a shows ok for ds14mk2 in the parts finder and in the RMA description  http://now.netapp.com/eservice/partDetails.do?partNumber=SP-274A&productGuid=47DA9F958AC60072E10080000A63AE6C&rohsCompliant=No

But you might be right... I remember something about an A model not working mk2 but can't remember that long ago since these are really old drives... but the description lists they were mk2 supported.  mk4 too which is odd.

I get the feeling that I need to migrate all disks except the 278... to make sure the move works next time... I "love" netapp

What is the information in parts finder that tells me that the Disk Carrier is fitting into the MK2 shelf?

When I've tried to move them last week, I had to immediately revers and had no time/chance to get a complete look at the disks... So I need to find this out to 200% which ones I need to migrate with the "disk replace" command.

Thanks,

Peter

To the right of the disk it lists shelves. Your x236 are the ones with the thinner carrier key for the mk1 shelf only.

Yes, thats correct. I do have the impression that NetApp shipped some X274 in the "thinner" carrier and some in the "wider" carrier... Which makes it almost impossible to handle this situation... Correct?
