Hi ALL.
We have a data migration from FAS2040 to FAS2552, we need to migrate every volume including the root volume. My concern is changing the root volume of FAS2552.
it is possble to change the root volume from FAS2040 to FAS2552 with different Data ONTAP version withouth issue?
Hope you can help me with this.
Thank you,
John

this was confirm by technical support, you can change the root volume no matter what version of Ontap it came from.

Are you attempting head swap? In this case what version and mode you have currently?

not totally head swap.. let me explain it..
FAS2040 with external shelf and running DATA ONTAP 8.1.4. i will migrate every volume from that FAS2040 to FAS2552 with running DATA ONTAP 8.2.4.
first, i use snapmirror to have a replica on FAS2552. i want to copy all the configuration of FAS2040 to FAS2552.
what im thinkiing is... i will break the snapmirror relationship then change the root volume of FAS2552 and point the root volume of FAS2040 as the new root volume. (which is replicated on FAS2552). so that every configuration of FAS2040 will be trasnsfer to FAS2552.
my concern is.. if there's any issue because they're running a different version of DATA ONTAP?
is this possible?
BTW this is 7m to 7m.
Thank you.
