Object Storage

storageGRID filled up 99%, what actions we should take?

Hello there, we have production Ontap clusters configured with storageGRID for moving old CIFS data and snapshots. they are filling up with 99% usage now. we have also used some space from StorageGRID for backup software as object storage for long term copies, but lost connections lately believe it may also be related to the usage.

wondering if we have to take any actions in this situation such as pasusing new data to storagegrid, free up some space or any others.... please share you experience.

thank you,

Without altering the object placement policies on StorageGRID to reduce storage overhead, then the optimal approach would be to free up Fabricpool tiered capacity.

Freeing up capacity would be dependent on how and where space is available within ONTAP (volumes, aggregates). Once the potential candidate volume(s)/aggregate(s) have been identified then data can be pulled off StorageGRID and deleted using promote cloud retrieval policy with adjusted tiering policy or via volume move with a destination volume tiering policy of none.

Here is an article that covers the promote retrieval policy option for StorageGRID full scenario: https://kb.netapp.com/on-prem/ontap/DM/FabricPool/FabricPool-KBs/FabricPool_object-store_unavailable_due_to_StorageGRID_Full

Well, free space or add capacity is guaranteed to work.

Adjusting unreclaimed space threshold in FP may be a way to free some capacity at the cost of more workload on SG (which could cause other problems). It's probably best to contact Support for advice on this, because it's not really a fix, but a workaround, which could cause other problems.

99% full probably means it's 100% full over short periods.
