NetApp ONTAP 9.7 Simulator

I'm looking for a simulator download to deploy the NetApp ONTAP 9.7 simulator in VMWare Vshphere/ESXi so we can test compatibility with our product and the latest version of the NetApp software. We have our own library to connect to SMB shares and we want to test compatibility between this and the latest NetApp version to provide feedback to our customers.

I only see 9.6 listed when I click the "Data OnTAP Simulator" but under "ONTAP Select" section I see a 9.7 version, is this the version I should be using or is this a different product?

Hi,

That's correct.  Under Download: Simulate ONTAP for ONTAP 8.x and 9.x, only 9.6 is listed. However, Simulators are upgradable, so that's a good news.

You will need to download the 'standard' ONTAP 9.7 image as we normally do from the support page (As you mentioned as well): You can simply go to bottom of download section where it says - "To access a specific version" and enter 9.7.

Once the image is in your repository, just follow the steps to upgrade the Ontap. I am sure there are notes on the upgrade steps on the forum as well on the google.

I found one example, user has upgraded from 9.6 to 9.7RC1, but at the moment, 9.7 GD is available to download.

Thanks!

That's great, thanks for your quick response. I will look at upgrading the existing 9.6 simulator we have using the regular update method which I now remember that I've used in the past to apply a development patch.

I'm currently unable to download the 9.7 update as it looks like an entitlement issue, so I've raised a case to have that looked into but once that's resolved I will give it a try and report back.

If the download menu is not presented to my login acct as you describe:

Under Download: Simulate ONTAP for ONTAP 8.x and 9.x

does that by definition mean our contract is not worthy of using the tool?  Is there a way to verify our worthiness or lack of it?

The link to the simulators you can also find here: https://kb.netapp.com/Advice_and_Troubleshooting/Data_Storage_Software/ONTAP_OS/Where_can_the_ONTAP_9_simulator_be_downloaded

Also there is the Hands-on lab where you can try out solutions and specific features in a already setup environment.
