With all of the Vmware changes due to the new owners, are there any plans to make the NetApp simulator available for other virtualization platforms such as KVM, Proxmox, XCP-NG, etc.?
Also for the HYPER-V Platform could be a good option, for testing in combination with Microsoft products. (conversion of .vmdk to .vhdx does not work... even using several conversion tools, the host wont boot) maybe someone is already having experience with that?
Hello
Got the same question today from a customer.
They really ask for VMware alternatives for the ONTAP simulator (or at least an official or unofficial procedure that works to convert from VMware to something else).
Are there some news around that ?
A NetApp engineer in Japan has posted a guide on how to run Linux KVM on the technical knowledge-sharing site Qiita.
With the now freely available VMware Workstation Pro and VMWare Fusion tools, I suspect it highly unlikely that NetApp would spend much effort on alternate platforms.
I used to put in a lot to make it work on VirtualBox, but now it's just way simpler to use the free VMWare tools. It just works.
