is it possible to upgrade simulatored netapp 7-mode to cluster mode?

having one customer will upgrade netapp 7-mode to cluster mode so we want to try it in lab first
not sure if we can upgrade a simulatoed netapp 8.1 7-mode to cluster mode?

controller> software update http://path_to_web_accessible_diretory/image.tgz -f
as the simulator image only contains vmware virtual machine files so it should not recognized by dataontap

It is not possible to upgrade 7-Mode to C-Mode. You need to setup new C-Mode system and migrate data to it.

Its not an in-place upgrade. Just like physical controllers they must be evacuated and wiped to convert them to cluster mode. The conversion procedure works in the sims, with the exception of the set-defaults loader command which is not available in the vloader.
