If my datastore is store in Clustered ONTAP volume(By NFS) or LUN

Is any NetApp tool or plug-in can help virtual machine clone more rapider and offload the host cpu loading to ONTAP Controller node?

Thanks

Hi @AllenChang

We have provide ONTAP tools for VMware which does add some additional integration capabilities if your data stores are sitting on NetApp storage.

Suggest checking out https://www.netapp.com/support-and-training/documentation/ontap-tools-for-vmware-vsphere-documentation/

Some of the benefits are outlined here - https://docs.netapp.com/us-en/netapp-solutions/virtualization/vsphere_ontap_ontap_capabilities_for_vsphere.html

Hope this helps.

Hi @AllenChang

Not sure if you spent time reviewing the documentation I referenced, but it's not quite as simple as just installing the tools. You have to enable the right capabilities/configuration in order to be able to leverage the various capabilities ONTAP Tools for VMware offers.

There is some protection capabilities that must first be enabled on the relevant datastore/VMs you want to be able to perform certain activities on (like cloning).

Suggest you spend some time reviewing the deployment and configuration information regarding ONTAP Tools for VMware so you can familiarise yourself with what the pre-requisites and requirements.

Hope this helps.

If you are using NFS, you need to install the NFS VAAI package. This will significant increase operations on NFS datastores and provides command offloading automatically.
