NFS and Vsphere

We have a new 3140 and we recently got licensed for NFS when we made a rather healthy investment in more storage. The environment is entirely virtual and I have some rather large VMDK's of 500GB and larger. I want to make the most of dedupe and keep the number of volumes manageable over the entire filer (just under 100TB) bu making my NFS volumes as big as possible for these data only VMDK's. Has anyone gone to the lengths of creating NFS volumes of 4 or 6 TB for a few data only VMDK's and is there any gotchas associated with such large volumes on ESX4.1?

Ive been through the best practices guide but in this fast changing world what was good yesterday may not be true today.

I was curious if anyone had any experience with this type of deployment.

any advice is appreciated

Hi,

4-6TB NFS datastore doesn't sound massive to me, but I have just one question: what version of ONTAP are you on?

If it is 7.3.x, then be wary the max size of a deduplicated volume on 3140 is 4TB.
