NFS over fiber?

Is there a way to run NFS over our exsisting fiber? We run VMWare to vmfs datastores on our NetApp. Someone among my team went to TechEd and heard that NFS might be a better way to go vs. vmfs. Would we have to switch our infrastructure back to IP or can we run NFS over our fiber to our NerApp?

Thank you all in advance.

NFS is by definition an IP based protocol, so yes, if you want to use NFS you need Gigabit ethernet.

Thank you. I had assumed this was the answer but there was some insistance from my superior that this was something new from netapp that allowed this. I'm going with this answer. Thanks!
