VSC for VCSA 6.5

Hi guys,

as VMware is pushing more and more VCSA we want to migrate from vCenter 6 running on Windows to the VCSA 6.5

When will VSC be available for VCSA 6.5 (without the need of running it on another Windows machine)?

Thanks!

I am using 6.2.1P1 on VCSA 6.5 and its working but I have noticed a few issues.  First the descriptions for any of the tasks that tht VSC does in vCenter are not showing correctly is the task list.  Also having the plugin installed breaks option 2 from certificate manager.  The work around is to run certifficate manager to replace the SSL certs before you install the VSC plugin.

I have also seen a problem with task descriptions:

- vcsa 6.5a

- register vsc 6.2.1 succesfully to it

- added storage controllers to vsc (I have another problem with it, see https://community.netapp.com/t5/VMware-Solutions-Discussions/VSC-6-2-1-P1-Incomplete-Netapp-Storage-System-detection/m-p/128535#U128535 )

When I do a host and storage discovery and then reboot vsc and then reboot vcsa, all vcenter task descriptions are broken and are shown with ".label" descriptions. Not only those those tasks which have something to do with VSC. Every task f.e. rebooting a VM and the descriptions in host profiles manager. I have then to revert to a vsca-snapshot before vsc registration.

At one point I believe I was seeing the broken label descriptions for everyting but I removed VSC and rebooted the VSCA and the server the VSC was installed on.  Next I reinstalled VSC 6.2.1P1 and replaced the jre in the VSC install directory with Java 8 Update 77 (this fixed the issue when viewing the logs of the VSC backups from the email link).  Since then (fingers crossed) the task label issue has only occured with the NetApp tasks.

Hi,

For those who already work with vCSA 6.5 - Do you work with normal web client ? or HTML5 client ?

Does VSC plug-in already there in the HTML5 client ?

Thanks,

Itay

Installed the new VSC listed in this thread. Also installed the latest VASA appliance. I'm trying to get a handle on Vvols for the first time. Is anyone having problems creating Vvols with 6.5 VCSA?

Im getting some kind of java error. See pic

I was having the same issue. I opened a case with netapp, the technician told me there was open bug, and gave me bug ID 1069251

I saw netapp claimed support for VCSA6.5 at vmware website, so I thought the issue was fixed. I tried and still having the same issue.

I am sorry to disappoint you but at the moment there is no NetApp VASA provider available for vSphere 6.5. If you need to get in touch with vVols then you have to use vSphere 6.0.

It is a real shame what is happening or better NOT happening with VSC.

The 6.2.1P1 with vSphere 6.5 support is STILL not even showing up in the downloads, you need to know the direct URL to get it.

No HTML5 Client support, really? It`s been approx. 5 months since VMware released 6.5 GA.

And the workaround with the old Java version to be able to see backup logs - unbelievable.

This is a real disappointment, and I like NetApp a lot.

You can do better!

There any update on this?  Still waiting for a proper HTML5 vsc plugin for vcsa 6.5.  This is getting a bit rediculous.

Still waiting here too, everyone in our company wants to go vcenter 6.5 for the html5 interface but we can't because of this plugin... Any news would be appreciated !

Is this still an issue with 6.2 P2? Getting a warning when trying to migrate a Windows 5.5 vcenter to 6.5 appliance...

I updated today the VCSA from 6.5 to 6.5 Update 1 and I have now the "task description label" Problem. 😞

Installed VSC Version: 6.2.1P1

I found in the VMware forum the reason why the VSC caused the problem:

"The plugin version was 6.2.1P1D1, which was where the problem ended up being. 6.2.1P1D1 is the service version for the plugin and the Virtual center JAR only interprets service versions on plugins that contain numbers, it cannot interpret letters. When it tries to process the Netapp plugin it fails and never loads the rest of the files containing the appropriate lables."

https://communities.vmware.com/thread/511581?start=15&tstart=0

But unfortunately there is no solution except to disable the VSC plugin.

Is there already something new from NetApp?

I have changed back to the snapshot before the update and the problem persists, although it was not there until today, how can that be?

Hi,

we had some issues with vcenter 6.5 and vsc 6.2.1P1D1.

All was fixed with new 6.2.1P1D2 🙂

I have not heard of this version (6.2.1P1D2)

When I click on your link I get the error message "Unauthorized Access"

I tested 6.2.1P1 an 7.0 and both Versions have the "Task .label" Problem.

6.2.1P1 I have downloaded here:

Can someone tell me how I uninstall the VSC 7.0 appliance or unregister in the vCenter? I need to downgrade to 6.2.1P1 on Windows.

In the "Deployment and Setup Guide" I find nothing. 😞

You can either go to https://yourVSCserver:8143/Register.html or unregister it forcefully from VSphere MOB:

https://yourVCENTER/mob - "Content" - "ExtensionManager" - find all com.netapp.* extensions in the extensionList, copy the Name (e.g. com.netapp.nvpf) and start UnreigsterExension Method (paste the Extenesion name there and click "invoke method".)

Many thanks for the quick help, have worked perfectly. 🙂

Can someone else access the version 6.2.1P1D2 mentioned by ICT-Acea?
