why do I get this error when i modify the security of the qtree?

qtree security /vol/dr_esx_vol12_sr/dr_esx-vol12_sr_qtr unix

Apparently ONTAP thinks you're missing a required protocol license on that system.  If you have that license and you feel this is in error, go ahead and open a support ticket so they can troubleshoot it for you.

I do not think I have nfs license. should i just ignore this?

If you don't have NFS license, please purchase - It is best practice to have default security style be Unix. Change the  wafl.default_security_style to the protocol you own like NTFS, that will avoid the errors too.
