Ok, why would you want to connect output to excel file. For console logging you should set your console window to log the putty session. For excel output to CSV, you should become familiar with the powershell cmdlets and output to csv.

You need to find out if your controller is still under support b/c a 2240 is kind of old at this point. options autosupport will show you if it gets sent to the asup url. Don't worry about turning on thin provisioning if you are that new to netapp
