I'm running v 3.1 of NMC - is this fixed in a newer version? Looks like its failing since one of the source volumes in 32 bit and the destination aggr is 64 bit? Thanks for the comprehensive reply - no need for NFS customers to open a case "NFS VAAI support for 7-mode is expected to be available in Data ONTAP 8.1.1." "We expect to provide support for on-line alignment for NFS datastores in future releases of Data ONTAP and the VSC." We keep hearing NFS adoption is out pacing other protocols - why are NFS customers relegated to second class citizens when it comes to support? When will NFS customers get a fair deal ? Netapp, please set the trend and start supporting NFS first since its the leading protocol in new deployments, overtaking the others thanks

No help - I'm kind of surprised since the promise of no downtime realignment is a killer feature - but its not available/functioning Information on the NFS VAAI Plugin The NFS VAAI Plugin does not ship with VSC for VMware vSphere. You must download the plugin from the NetApp Support Site and manually install it. Details on installing the plug-in are in Knowledge base article 3013414 How to install the NFS VAAI plugin for VSC 4.0 for VMware vSphere , which is online at kb.netapp.com/support/index?page=content&id=3013414. Parent topic: Known issues with Monitoring and Host Configuration What are the steps to integrate the NFS VAAI Plug-in with VSC for VMware 4.0 vSphere to use the 'Install to Host' feature? KB ID: 3013414 Version: 3.0 Published date: 03/28/2012 Categories: Setup Configuration, Virtual Storage Console for VMware 4.0 Answer The NFS VAAI Plug-in is in the final stage of the VMware Certification process. It is expected to be released within a few weeks. Please check back then. As the plug-in is not shipped with Virtual Storage Console (VSC) for VMware 4.0 vSphere, download the plug-in software from the NetApp Support Site to a specific VSC for VMware vSphere directory. After downloading, use the 'Install to Host' feature on the Tools panel of the Monitoring and Host Configuration capability to install the NFS VAAI Plug-in. When the plug-in is available, this article will be updated with the NetApp Support Site location of the plug-in, the correct download directory for the plug-in, and the steps for installing the plug-in.

I was excited to upgrade to the latest VSC 4 - esp to try the "online VM alignment" http://support.netapp.com/NOW/download/software/vsc_win/4.0/ New Features: Virtual Storage Console 4.0 for VMware vSphere includes enhancements to all four capabilities. The Monitoring and Host Configuration capability adds support for the following: Data ONTAP® for Cluster-Mode Management of consolidated storage controller credentials These credentials apply to the Monitoring and Host Configuration capability, the Provisioning and Cloning capability, and the Optimization and Migration capability. Scanning for and flagging indirect paths used to access data for Cluser-Mode based NFS exports, and providing a list of potential direct data paths The NFS VAAI Plugin This is a software library that integrates with Virtual Disk Libraries and allows VMware software to execute certain primitives on NetApp storage controllers. The Provisioning and Cloning capability enables you to perform the following tasks: Provision and manage NFS and VMFS datastores on storage systems running Data ONTAP for Cluster-Mode Use the Monitoring and Host Configuration capability to add and remove storage systems A new capability, Optimization and Migration, enables you to perform the following tasks: Review the alignment status of virtual machines Perform online alignment of virtual machines by migrating them into optimized VMFS datastores Migrate a group of virtual machines into new or existing datastores -- But the upgrade hangs on the vCenter register step - spinning forever on: https://localhost:8143/Register.html Windows 2008 shows the Netapp service is running... Anyone else seen this? thanks http://vmadmin.info

It takes almost 6 hours to run the initial snap mirror sync for this vFiler migration, and its failed twice with Waiting for SnapMirror-Resync to complete on 'dbdev2, dbdev5, dbdev7' flex-clones… then SnapMirror Resync failed: Reason: SnapMirror error: Volume is a clone and scanners have not completed on the parent volume: cannot execute operation Src and dest are 3270 clusters running 8.1RC2 This is the last remaining migration blocking our long awaited shelf upgrade - and we have a case open with Netapp Anyone seen this one and worked around it? Hi Scott, Here is the screenshot - the source is 32 bit and the destination aggrs are all 64 bit Is that the problem? I have 2 goals here 1 - evacuate the prod vfilers to the standby cluster (currently all 64 bit aggrs) so we can do hardware (shelf) upgrades to the prod cluster 2 - eventually get everything upgraded to 64bit aggrs non-disruptively thanks

Hi I am attempting to migrate this video-vf-01 vFiler from one 3270 8.1RC2 cluster to another 3270 8.1RC2 cluster and I am encountering the error below. Scott - do you have a reference for DFM plugins - I'm not sure what you mean here. "Do you have the exact dfm plugin for your 7.3.5 patch release" - I am initiating the vFiler migration from the latest NMC 3.1 connected to the latest Oncommand (DFM) v 5 I'm not aware of where plugins sit in this scenario. thanks

Our password has a '&' (Ampersand) character in it. On a hunch I temporarily set the passwd to a version without the '&' and Insight Balance logged in and discovered with no issues. At this point this seems like a bug in the parsing/passing of the password string by Insight Balance. thanks

The outcome of the Netapp case after several iterations with the engineer, was that reallocate was not recommended for deduped volumes! this was somewhat shocking - we can't have optimal performance with the dedup feature enabled? Effectively we are penalizing performance and accepting hotspots when we enable dedup? On a technical level I do understand the tradeoffs, but wish there was a way to get the benefits of dedup without penalizing optimal performance. I believe the answer will be some SSD or flash solution so the "hotspots" are on low latency SSD/flash... thanks

Our vCenter (v5) on ONTAP 7.3.5.1P2 is logging these every 30 minutes and its blowing up our daily vCheck report - its puzzling since the plugin seems to have working authentication (we see vFiler datastores and hosts etc) - so what is it complaining about?
