The case owner replied saying the 32xx is not listed as supported for data motion in tr-3814 I am requesting a point release to make vFiler migration work with the 3270 or (less desirable) access to the workaround mentioned in this forum. Does anyone know how to make a 3270 look like a 3170 to NMC? Does it call sysconfig? Does sysconfig pull the model from the registry files? I see /etc/rlm_config_from_filer lists the model - but that does not appear to be what NMC uses... thanks

Update: I've been told Netapp can't give the internal workaround I've asked for the case to be escalated. Side note: this should not happen 1) the 3270 model while one of the newer models, has been selling > 6 months 2) conformance requirements (for vFiler migration or any other operation) should not be tied to static model numbers) - Scott where are you pulling the HA and NVRAM requirements from? The best thing Netapp could do is to quickly issue a point release for DFM 4.0.2D with NMC 3.0.2D to fix this ASAP thanks

FYI, I completed the vfiler migration successfully via the ONTAP cmd line "vfiler migrate..." The NMC migration is much preferred as it provides progress indication and ability to control the final cutover timing. I noticed my cmd line BLOCKED during the 2.5 hour vfiler migration - I could not issue a vfiler migrate status Will see what Netapp support says... thanks

Yes, the case is 2002233334 P2 - the engineer called me and is now off researching possible causes. I can confirm, they are both HA pairs. I am running the vfiler migrate from the DOT command line right now and its pumping < 1gb - disappointing since the source and dest are supposedly 10Gb end to end... Is there a default bandwidth throttle set on these operations by DOT? thanks

Hi - I'm attempting the first test vFiler migration to a new 3270 with NMC 3.0.1 and I'm receiving the following error - is it fixed in 3.0.2?: Conformance Results === SEVERITY === Error: Attention: Failed to select a resource. === ACTION === Select a destination resource for migrating === REASON === Storage system : 'na04'(120): - Automated Online Migration is not supported as destination storage system 'na04'(120) model is FAS3270 and source storage system 'na02'(152) model is FAS3170 === SUGGESTION === Suggestions related to storage system 'na04'(120): - Minimum supported model for Automated Online Migration is FAS3170 thanks http://vmadmin.info

The new 3270 shipment came with 2 different models (AVAGO & Finisar) - we installed 4 AVAGO in the Chelsio card and 4 Finisar in the c0a + c0b x2 interconnect Turns out it was not compatible - they needed to be swapped Once they were swapped - LINKS UP! Back to P2 and we are all good for the upgrade to proceed... Moral: not all transceivers are equal - check them! thanks

Just downgraded back to P1 and the link is BACK!? Why would P2 affect this? - no networking related items in the notes I can see http://vmadmin.info

Hi - I am staging a new Netapp 3270 with Chelsio Dual 10gig nic connected to an HP 5406zl - but after upgrading from 7.3.5.1P1 to 7.3.5.1P2 and rebooting I am getting no link on any of the 4 ports on the 5406zl side. (I'm not sure the upgrade was the culprit, but its one of the last changes before the link on all 4 went down) - previously we had link When I bring up the nic with ifconfig e1a up, the status changes to auto-unknown-enabling for a few seconds, then auto-unknown-down) Netapp: na04> sysconfig -v 1 slot 1: Dual 10G Ethernet Controller T320E-SFP+ Device Type: CT-31-3 Version Number: T3-SRAM1.1.0-BR1114-30-A0-FW7.7.2-DR04 Serial Number: PT12110481 e1a MAC Address: 02:a0:98:99:50:ea (auto-unknown-down) e1b MAC Address: 02:a0:98:99:50:ea (auto-unknown-down) 5406zl: > sho int brief c3,c4 Status and Counters - Port Status | Intrusion MDI Flow Bcast Port Type | Alert Enabled Status Mode Mode Ctrl Limit ------ --------- + --------- ------- ------ ---------- ----- ----- ------ C3 SFP+SR | No Yes Down 10GigFD off 0 C4 SFP+SR | No Yes Down 10GigFD off 0 Should I try swapping out the tranceivers? The weird thing is I was getting link earlier in the day and the switch was logging up and down entries when I was bringing netapp vifs up and down during testing - but now nothing - the link is stuck DOWN on the 5406zl. Anyone seen this after going to P2? We've tried disabling/enabling, reseating fiber connections - still no LINK. Thanks for any tips! http://vmadmin.info Fletcher.

You need to break the snapmirror and resize the destination manually, then resync the snapmirror that is my experience - I'd like to know if there is a better way!

My DFM nearly full and full thresholds are set to 90/95% respectively. the System-status message is not triggered until 98% There seems to be a per filer 98% default threshold not affected by DFM config? thanks to anyone who can show how to make the thresholds match (I'd like the system-status to change at 95%) http://vmadmin.info

Hi, I¹ll review my notes and logs to see what the error was from PM, but not from the command line 1. Did you mean to say that they tried to use DR vfiler initially to accomplish the migration task and resulted into some issues? If yes, what kind of issues they faced there? Yes, we encountered an unclean arp cache clear resulting in a duplicate IP after executing a vfiler dr activate command we had a case open on this for weeks 2. And while using datamotion ( Provisioning Manager) did customer want to use the existing snapmirror-relationships ( out of DR vfiler) for baselining the volumes? Yes, we would like to re-use those existing snapmirror relationships for baselining the volumes thanks

I just wrote up our experiences using non-disruptive vFiler migrate to upgrade our 3040's 25Tb (in 15 vFilers) to a new 3170 with zero downtime: http://www.vmadmin.info/2011/02/vfiler-non-disruptive-migration.html I agree, this is a killer feature and I am pleased with the robust implementation - seems like magic at first, but it just works (like vmware vMotion ) Cheers, Fletch.

Hi, we use Windows Services for UNIX (WSFU) to NFS mount our netapp .snapshots to windows hosts (to use a great little util http://www.ufsexplorer.com/ to mount VMDKs and restore guest files - highly recommend it) Problem comes when some of the vmdk files are readable only by root - UFS explorer can not mount these via the NFS because WSFU mounting by default with an effective UID of -2 (see screenshot of NFS mount properties) The volume is shared on the Netapp side with this host's IP in the ROOT acl (as we do for Unix NFS clients) - but this is not translating to a root UID on the windows client. Can anyone offer guidance how to tune WSFU to obtain UID root instead of -2? thanks in advance, Will summarize, http://vmadmin.info

I migrated a vfiler and re-established the snapmirror on the command line (outside PM) Now I want to clear the status in PM back to "not started" I tried dfm vfiler delete <ObjectID> dfm vfiler add <ObjectID> but it remember the "Migrated, cleanup required" status Is there way to clear/reset this without destroying my existing snapmirror ? thanks

thanks for the replies - FYI - I tested a offline migration via Provisioning manager - 5/5 times it failed at cutover with "Completed with errors" I tried from the command line and it worked the first time: Data transfer for vfiler storage units initiated. This can be a long-running operation. Stopping remote vfiler.... Updating vfiler storage units.... Starting snapmirror update commands. It could take a very long time when the source or destination filers are involved in many simultaneous transfers. The console will not be available until all update commands are started successfully. Please use the "snapmirror status" command on the source filer to monitor the progress. Hi - I get this when attempting a migration between two heads in the cluster: Conformance Results === SEVERITY === Error: Online Migration is not allowed between a storage system and its partner. === REASON === Migration not supported (Error 23509) === SUGGESTION === No suggested corrective action is available. The Offline is available, but "data will be unavailable during cutover" Q1: Why is online not available for intra-head migrations? is it arp cache related? Q2: offline may work for this vfiler if the cutover (~1-2 minutes in the online case) operates the same (goes into semi-sync, then cuts over) - what will the NFS clients expect to see ? a timeout for the 1-2 minutes? thanks
