DNS is not used to talk to filer. It is used to find filer IP from filer name. For testing you could try to configure filer IP instead of name in SnapDrive and monitor whether these warnings disappear. If yes, you have issues with DNS name resolution.

Yes, you need to have FC path to remote site. If all you want to achieve is physical data redundancy, may be you could consider standard active/active pair on one site with SnapMirror to another site. This does not require having extended fabric across both sites.

How would shutting down both nodes help you to get access to node A? Really curious To boot diagnostics you need access to console. It is available either locally via serial port or remotely via SP. If SP network is configured, SP is accessible even if node is shut down, as long as power is applied to the system. To configure SP use "sp setup" command on filer. It shares e0M port with Data ONTAP, so you have to connect it to LAN. It does not support tagged VLANs.

1. The MetroCluster FC switches are dedicated to interconnection of NetApp components. It is not supported to use them for any other type of traffic, including general purpose SAN connection from hosts. 2. MetroCluster is the same active/active system so standard SAN configuration applies. Your hosts are assumed to be connected to both controllers and to use multipathing software. So in your example if motherboard (I believe, that is what you mean) in one controller fails, another controller initiates takeover and makes resources available to all connected hosts. There is no difference to standard active/actve configuration.

Yes, from host. You can always access snapshot from host and copy data from it. For Microsoft CIFS clients there is also previous versions tab.

You still need separate root volume; and you probably would not want to spend the whole two or three disks for it. Also even if there is no need in flexibility right now, I am almost sure suitable use will appear with the time. NetApp is simply too good to not use features it offers ☺

You need a_sis, which is the deduplication license, and at least in the past you needed nearstore to enable a_sis. Both options are zero cost now, but you still need to place order by NetApp so that licenses are properly associated with your system.

Are onboard ports configured as target or initiator (or configured at all)? "fcadmin config". Which speed they run currently (can check using "sysconfig -a")? Which shelf modules are used?

Well, that is VMware KB article, it is probably better to ask VMware From NetApp point of view there is nothing special in MetroCluster. As long as your configuration is supported with ESXi 5 (check IMT) it is also supported in MetroCluster.

The minimal required root volume size depends on model and is documented in Storage Management Guide. I never had pressing needs to go beyond this minimum. The only reason I can think of is to keep longer performance archive history. It does not matter whether disks are in base or extension shelf; you can assign them any way you need to each controller in HA pair. So there is no single answer. For two shelf configuration I’d probably use all disks in first shelf for one head and all disks in extension shelf for another head. Purely out of aesthetic reasons ☺ But at the end it is performance requirements and sizing that decide.

It is not mandatory to have separate root aggregate. It is perfectly acceptable for (relatively) small system to have single aggregate which hosts all volumes. You do need separate root volume though.

This can be also interpreted that PAM bypasses uncompressed data. That PAM does not increase compression performance is understandable - there is no repeated reads here. When you read compressed data, NetApp has to uncompress them before delivering to client. So this phrase could simply mean that NetApp does not attempt to cache these (temporary) uncompressed data. But I agree, it should be clarify to avoid confusion.

I noticed that examples in FibreBridge installation guide show that ACP is unused. Is it correct that ACP is not supported (and not to be used) in MC? Or can it be used at least for local shelves?

Personally I would leave it at default (metadata for PAM I and normal for PAM II/FlashCache). Do not forget that you also can fine tune what gets cached (at least to some extent) per volume using FlexShare.
