No space is "required to take the snapshot"
There is some overhead for copying metadata, so it is not entirely free. But this sounds like exam question in which case answer is likely 6 🙂

I would like to change all of the LUNs created via SnapDrive to space-reserve = disabled for space saving reasons. Any downsides to doing so?
This does not save any (physical) space. It simply allows you to over-commit logical space in volume by creating LUNs with total size exceeding volume size. If you over-commit you need to monitor for free space both on logical (volume) and physical (aggregate) level. If you do not over-commit, it is entirely equivalent to having space-reserved LUN.

Can I safely remove all of the existing lifs including the mgmt lif?
Where do you see it complaining about management LIF? It complains about data LIFs belonging to data SVMs.

Can I also remove the root volumes on the FAS-3240 nodes as well and still be able to complete the unjoin procedure?
Again - it complains about SVM root volumes. You obviously cannot remove SVM root volume without losing access to other SVM data volumes (I am not sure it is even possible to remove). What you can do is to move volume to another aggregate on another node.
You cannot remove node root volume.

10TB capacity in DS4486/DS4246 is not supported with 8.2.3 7-mode, but with 9.x it is supported.
Only in RAID-TEC.

I have never tried it but I am guessing the system will recognize the disks but will be 'down-sized' to the max-supported disk size supported by that particular OS version type.
To correctly recognize disk you need corresponding DQP, my understanding always was that "disk supported starting with Data ONTAP X.Y.Z" simply means "Data ONTAP X.Y.Z includes DQP with this disk". But good question is what happens when you try to create RAID-DP with 10TB disks. Will it be refused flat out or it is "unsupported" in the sense "we do not recommend it".

It should not have any effect on failover (performance). There will be one path to internal disks from each controller, but I find it acceptable given that all connections are via fixed backplane.

Make sense?
No. You cannot remove nodes that host volumes. If volumes are already relocated to another nodes, any traffic to LIFs on these nodes will go via interconnect to another node(s). So moving LIFs to nodes that actually host volumes will actually improve situation by avoiding indirection via cluster interconnect.

The whole point of using 7MTT is to automate identity migration. If you just want to transition volume content - why not simply use snap mirror directly?

Older version may not be able to access disks used by newer version. So before directly installing 9.3, remove all aggregates, unpartition disks, if possible, zero spares (not sure if it works from maintenance mode) and unassign disks.
Once I observed old version crashed when booted on new firmware. I had to downgrade firmware as well.
So doing official revert is more fool proof, but requires working cluster and takes more time.

This is 7-mode, verion 8.2. [Disks] were partitioned
7-Mode never supported partitioned disks. It sounds like you tried to sanitize root aggregate which you cannot do for obvious reasons. Now you are left without root volume/aggregate. If this is HA pair and partner still works you may try to complete sanitize from partner. If this is standalone controller, it may be possible to do it from network boot, but I am not sure if it will work.
Or you may try to initialize disks and install Data ONTAP again and follow https://kb.netapp.com/app/answers/answer_view/a_id/1034477/loc/en_US

If these are new systems, it is faster to simply install another version. Use special boot menu 9a to remove existing partitions, then 7 to install desired version (needs HTTP server to download ONTAP from) and then 4 or 9b to initialize. After that join nodes to existing cluster.

What happens if you move cluster management LIF to another node?
My guess is that simply takes first interface on network with (default) gateway (where "first" is in some internal kernel order of creation).

Disk qualification package is not the same as disk firmware and same NetApp part number comes from different sources which have different firmware (versions). You can not compare apples and oranges.
Installing DQP does not update any firmware.

Yes, all disks with the same NetApp number are compatible and interchangeable. NetApp number is X421 in this case.
You may need to update disk qualification package though.

The question is a bit unclear. If you mean “can ONTAP authenticate CIFS clients against user/password stored in LDAP” - no, I do not think it is possible.
