A matter of habit I guess. But I like to retain possibility to quickly perform giveback if something goes wrong during takeover. Otherwise in simple cases it probably does not matter and in complex cases editing /etc/rc alone may not be enough and you need temporary adjustments on partner as well.

1. Yes, you correct. 2. Again, you are correct. Nothing happens, partner controller is not up anyway. 3. In your case state of each filer is known at every step. In case of disaster it is unknown whether partner or interconnect is down. 4. Good question. I'd like to get answer too

Moving address to different physical port almost certainly requires adjustment to network infrastructure. I cannot predict how long it may take. Takeover should be non-disruptive for ESX access. If it is, your HA pair is no more HA in the first place and no NDU would be possible.

Yes, best practice is to assign all disks in a stack to the same pool. But it is possible to mix them as we'll. You may need to use force option or do it from maintenance mode.

Yes, it's possible. You need to connect host to both filer heads. There is no filer level failover when FC connection breaks - hosts at use supported multipathing software to handle it.

I am afraid, not. Partner will need to see exactly the same tape device under the same name, that is configured in backup software. The only way (at least, known to me) is to use 3way backup via remote NDMP tape server.

There seems to be some misunderstanding. You cannot export NFS via FCoE, but CNA adapter provides both LAN and FC functions via the same physical connection, so you can use LAN part as normal (although possibly more expensive) LAN adapter.

You need to use port_name for zoning and masking. Fabric name is internal port wwn assigned by switch and is not used for device to device communication.

You will need to change cabling offline (controllers shutdown). But I do not see any reason to do it. The more HBA IO is distributed over, the better. The only reason would be if you plan different shelf type.
