Thanks for the reply. I never knew about the shelf to controller serial number!, so this is how you would know where the root aggr is located?

How does a fabric attached MC come from the factory? I gather the back end FC switches are not configured and neither are the ATTO bridges… If this is the case, how could DOT be loaded on the system and if loaded how would we know where this has been loaded?

Sorry, I did not make myself clear. I am using a SAN environment in which LUNs do not reside with qtrees. Your answer suggests you can have mutual connection entries within snapmirror.conf (with different active interfaces) and then use these to create your snapmirror relationships (and hence split your volumes over two separate interfaces. Is this correct?

Is it possible to use SM over multiple paths as to mirror half the volumes over one path and the other half over a second path on the SAME filer? Looking at the backup and recovery guide snapmirror.conf file example suggests the all volumes would either multiplex over both interfaces or use the same active interface in the failover mode. It would be good if I could use failover mode and specify different active interfaces (using failover mode) for different SM relationships.

Did a few more tests on this. File flexclone works with the VM without snapshots on the same volume. Copy offload works with snapshots and across volumes.

Does this feature work with VMs which have vSphere snapshots and also VMs (with or without vSphere snapshots) between volumes. My testing has not been successful with these two scenarios; however, it certainly does work when cloning VMs without vSphere snapshots on the SAME volume ONLY.

We actually have all destination volumes thin. How do this affect the volume when it becomes writable? Does it continue to be thin or convert to fat as per the src?

When a src vol is space reserved and the dest is not space reserved what happens to the dest when it is broken and brought online? Does it inherited the src vol space option of space reserved or not?

FYI - In the release notes for View 5.1.3 some persona sync issues have been fixed - I have done some testing and all seems well so far...

I am very glad I posted this question.. I did not know you could use snapmirror on the same filer. I also believe you cannot snapmirror between filers in the same HA pair, I am wrong here also? If you can snapmirror does this mean you can also schedule snapmirror updates in an attempt to reduce your cutover time (to the new volume)? Lastly, within your vol copy example for moving snapshots are you moving the vol first then each snapshot after the initial vol copy? IE: vol copy start src dst ----- This takes the volume and all snaps vol copy -S src dst ----- This takes volume ONLY vol copy -S important_vol new_important_vol ----- This moves specific snaps to the new volume ???????

What tools are available to run simple storage system performance benchmarking for new installs? IOMeter or do NetApp provide anything other than this?

The solution I am working on is not in place as yet so just gathering info at the moment. I think I will drop the partner help desk an email tomorrow to see if they can find anything out internally. I will update you if I come across anything. Cheers

Thanks for this, although that's not what I wanted to hear! Did you open a call with NetApp about this issue? Also, do you know of anyone who has managed to get this working on NetApp CIFS (View Persona)?? Thanks again.

We have customers who run within their own vfiler – each vfiler has its own ipspace and as Scott said, each ipspace has its own default route. Works great…

This is a netapp SRA unsupported config. It is the SRA which talks to the filers to create igroups etc, not SRM. I did suggest to netapp could they modify the perl scrip to NOT create iscsi igroups, however, they said they could not do this for me. I can't recall the script name at the moment, however, you can can find it within the program files directories of the SRA install, you can clearly see both the FC and iSCSI igroups commands. If you can modify perl you could maybe do this yourself, however, you would no longer be supported. If the host is enabled for iscsi then iscsi igroups will be created no matter what (this makes perfect sense of course) and as you have found the SRA will map luns to the iscsi igroups first. If you access directly from within the guest you will be fine, just ensure you disable iscsi on the hosts.

Yes. Unfortunately this is an unsupported configuration. My customer was fortunate enough to be able to swap out the iscsi mezzanine adapters in the 3rd party storage for FC adapters, creating a single protocol SAN. Iscsi was then disabled on the hosts which ensures the SRA only creates iscsi igroups.
