Creating Qtrees in Directories or Subdirectories?

Hello,

We are using CIFS SVMs with volumes that have the ntfs securitystyle.

f.ex.: volume1/MyJunctionPath/

We would like to use Qtrees for example with quotas but as far as I understood you can only create Qtrees at the root of the volume.

f.ex:

/vol/volume1/Qtree1

/vol/volume1/Qtree2

etc

Isn't it possible to create or use Qtrees in Directories or subdirectories?

f.ex.: like this?

/vol/volume1/Departement1Directory/Qtree1

/vol/volume1/Departement1Directory/Qtree2

/vol/volume1/Departement2Directory/Qtree3

/vol/volume1/Departement2Directory/SubDirectoryX/Qtree4

etc

Thanks a lot for your feedback!

Regards,

Didier

I tested this quickly in my lab and it does not appear possible to create qtrees below the root of the volume (running 9.5P6).

Thank you for your reply.

Yes it doesn't work too on 9.6sp4.

Sadly ... this would have been a very nice feature ....

Hi.

Quick tip - you can create symbollink/widelink into a dedicated qtree from any location in the share...

it's not so clean... but it's an option...

What I can think is using volume instead of qtrees. Use subdirectory as a junction for the volume.
