Multiple SVM or Single SVM ?

Hi,

I have a FAS2554 in cluster mode Data OnTap. By default, SystemSetup created 2 agregates :

- "sata_data_1" on my node 1 (22,5 TB)

- "sata_data_2" on my node 2 (22,5 TB)

I want to know if I can create a single SVM with 45TB or should I create at least 2 SVM ?

Regards.

This question comes up a lot.  It's all about your workload and how you want to split up your name space and SVM's.

We aren't going to be able to make that decision for you.  Just think big picture and the future, plus overhead with management.

What are you putting on this SVM, Home Drives, business shares, etc...

Hi,

In fact, I just want a huge lun for a Windows Hyper-V Cluster. That's why I only want a single SVM. Is it technically possible with NetApp ?

Because you have two aggregates, you will need to create minimum two LUNs to split the workload to the different aggregates and controllers. If you use snapshots for data protection it is smart to group the VMs per LUN that will have same protection policy

Hi,

I don't use snapshots.

So, I can make only a single SVM, but I need to create two LUNs to split the workload. Isn't it ?
