Replace SATA 3TB disks by 8TB NL-SAS is possible?

Hi guys,

The customer has a FAS8080 with some X308 3TB disks, but haven´t any more spares. On the same cluster, he has a FAS9000 with X318 8TB disks and many spares. The doubt is: can I use X318 disks to replace X308 on shelves DS4246? The ONTAP version is 9.1P1.

Thank you in advance!

As long as you will create a new aggregate/RAID groups from the inserted disks, you should be fine.

If ontap uses a larger drive to rebuild into the larger drive effectively becomes the same size as the smaller drive. It right sizes the larger capacity drive to be that if the lower capacity drive

Thank you TMAC_CTG for your answer, but my doubt is about compatibility on put these two types of disks (NL-SAS and SATA) on the same disk shelf.
