Greetings,
I put this request in already as a support ticket and was told that NetApp support can only see the same available to download versions that we do and that I should instead post to the simulator forum. We are going to be upgrading several FAS2040's (currently running 8.0.1 7-Mode) to 8.1.4 7-Mode but we would like to start testing and writing the procedure using a simulator. The earliest simulator version offerered to download is Data ONTAP 8.1.4. I am hoping somebody can respond to this post with a downloadable copy of Data ONTAP 8.0.1 7-Mode Simulator.
Thank you,
Ben

Anything back to about 8.1.1 you can just grab the closest version of the sim and upgrade/revert from there, but 8.0.x was a formative time for the simulator. The disk layout was different, the vmdk format was different, the sysids were different, it was packaged differently, licensing, etc etc. Getting it working can be a bit more involved.
This link should still work:
For licenses, the 814 sheet should work. I don't have the old setup guide archived, but you can search the old posts for help.
Just remember no HA, and the hardware will have extra steps related to all the assorted firmware for disk/shelf/sp/hba, so there are limits to the simulation for things like upgrade planning.

Thank you for the link. BTW, there's a license txt file included in the zip file. I'm off to search for the setup guide now. Even without HA this should be a good start for writing an upgrade procedure. Thanks again!

Thanks, that one is more comprehensive than what I was looking at http://tech.gluck.cc/2011/04/data-ontap-801-7-mode-simulator.html.

Calvin's blog post has some info thats not in the documentation. Namely the workaround for adding disks.

I should be good on that front, I've already done the process of adding and increasing the size of disks for the 8.1.4 simulator. I may not even change the default disk layout though as I am only writing a procedure for upgrading to 8.1.4. Thanks again for all your help.
