Fibre channel fas2050 during migration of data.

We have a fas 2050 with a single controller with these adapters :

The fibre is connected to an external cabinet.

Can we use the fibre ports for data migration, for example break redundancy and use one of the two fibre ports for data migration? Is 2gbit the limit of these ports?

Onboard FC ports in FAS2050 are 4Gb/s.

Could you explain what you mean under “data migration”. Migration from where to where?

I want to hook up the fas 2050 to our brocade fibre channel switch and then hook it up to one of our esx servers. From there i want to migrate the data to another storage system.

You still do not give enough information.

If your “data” is in form of LUN on NetApp, it may be possible using external data migration appliances (or even just host based tools). Or it may be possible using third party storage capabilities (like EMC CLARiiON SanCopy).

If your “data” is in form of files on NetApp volumes which are accessed via NFS/CIFS - it is not possible.

We do use NFS volumes, and therefor cannot use FC for migration. We are now thinking of adding a 10gbe network card to the fas2050 for migration purposes.
