Hi,
I have an opportunity for VMware with FCP and I would appreciate your help with answering these questions:
1. I understand that the Vspere Alua is round robin active/active. Does it know not to use the proxy paths (the ports of the other head via interconnect)?
2. I understand there is a road map for Single file restore with SMVI. I understand that with FCP/ISCSI it is going to be single VMDK restore, not a single file from the VMDK. is it correct? Can anyone tell what is the timetable for that?
Thank you,
Erez.

Hi Erez,
To answer your second question, SMVI will perform single file restores in both FCP / iSCSI and NFS environments as well as individual VMDKs. There is no difference in functionality when it comes to supported protocols. SMVI 2.0 is slated for release this fall.

Hi Erez,
The answer to your first question is yes. ALUA stands for Asymmetric Logical Unit Access. Please take a look at Vaughn Stewart's blog post "vSphere Introduces the Plug-n-Play SAN" for more information.
Hope this helps,
-Eric
