What is the optimal definition for VMware volumes?

Hello,

I know the TR-3749 (NetApp Storage Best Practices for VMware vSphere), but only the old one from December 2011.

Are there any new recommendations? For cDOT 8.3 or 9.1?

What needs to be considered today for thin-provisioned LUNs / Volumes for VMware?

What are the optimal volumes for NFS for VMware?

Or is still valid from 2011???

Thanks a lot.

Best regards

Michael

Hello Michael,

TR-4333 is the current best practices document for clustered Data ONTAP 8.3.  The best practices for ONTAP 9.0+ are currently being drafted and will be published in the not-too-distant future.

Hope that helps.

Andrew

Hi Michael,

For VMware vSphere 6 on NetApp Clustered Data ONTAP 8.3, please set the NFS. MaxVolumes to 256 for efficient use of VSC.

For ONTAP 9.0, as mentioned by asulliva,  best practices document will be published soon.
