You can use similar route commands on the filer. You have to add the command into the /etc/rc file as well so that it will be configured on a reboot.

Are you wondering if a NetApp lun that is being used for a boot disk can have snapshots and be mirrored? If so, then yes, that is possible. If you take the snapshot from the filer, then if you use the snapshot, typically the OS will do a bit of crash recovery on boot up.

You can look at active connections (network connections active show) but it doesn't specifically say which volume they are connected to. You can view the export policy associated with a volume and check that export policy for the clients. But you would need to connect to the client itself to confirm if they have the volume mounted. See above for the commands.

You have a failed disk and no spares? You will need to replace the failed disk and possible install some additional spare disks. Can you provide a sysconfig -a from the filer? Also, can you provide the size of the containing aggregate?

If you want to add a single disk, you will need to expand the size of the raid group, I'm assuming that it is currently 11. If you increase it to 12, you can add the single disk to one of the existing raid groups. The disk space will be automatically part of the available aggregate size after adding.

Can you view the configuration of the dataset to see which volumes are listed? You can possibly edit it and remove any volumes that no longer exist.

The steps are provided in the simulator user guide which you can also download. The link should be provided near the download of the simulator software. You use the same simulator download, but you have to change the serial number on the boot up.

You can find out the export policy that the volume is using and see the servers in that export policy. volume show -volume <name> -fields policy vserver export-policy rule show -vserver <name> -policyname <name>

Not an answer to your specific question, but with regards to the default export for a new volume - it takes it from the export from vol0 (root volume). So if you restrict vol0, it would restrict new volumes until you had a chance to either remove the export or adjust it accordingly. For the FlexClone process, if auto update is enabled, I believe it should set the export to the same as the parent volume.

I believe the note above was referring to the disks belong to the VMs themselves. If a VM spans more than one datastore it could cause some issues with SP. Even with each volume having one datastore, if a VM has a disk on two datastores, that would mean the snapshots would need to be coordinated between the two volumes instead of just one. In response to the intiial inquiry - I have seen duplicated volumes / snapvault relationships being created within our SnapProtect environment as well. For me it has happened because the dataset is out of "conformance" for one reason or another - that is, the snapvault relationship went stale, because it was being updated for some reason and the souce removed the common snapshot. When the dataset goes out of conformance, SP will recreate the relationship usnig a new volume. I would have a look at the health of the SnapVault relationships and check for any errors on existing datasets.

In older upgrades, you had to manually upgrade the BIOS. However, with the new releases, it has become an automatic part of the entire upgrade. If you use the upgrade advisor tool on the now site, it would tell you if you needed to upgrade the BIOS yourself. As far as I'm aware, the DOT upgrade includes the recent release of the BIOS when that DOT was bundled and so it will upgrade to that version.

are you creating the volumes within the vserver context or in the cluster admin role. As a cluster admin you can essentially create what you want where you want, but in theory if the SVM doesn't have an aggr assigned, then within the vserver context you shouldn't be able to create the volume.

OnCommand Performance Manager has a fairly limited scope in terms of what performance it actually manages. Apparently it does capture the statistics but just doesn't show them. Despite the interface being pretty awkward to use in general, it would be nice if the range of graphs was expanded similar to what is available for 7mode. That aside, the recommendation is to use a third party system to pull the data from Performance Manager over API, for example Graphite. I'm wondering if anyone out there has setup Graphite for this purpose or have used other tools (if so, any in particular)? I was hoping to be able to see the traffic on a network interface, something that I had thought would be quick and easy, but setting up yet another tool is a bit of a speed bump.
